Man charged in connection with assault at St Mary’s Cathedral Edinburgh

Police Scotland has confirmed that 31-year-old Jason Irvine has been arrested and charged in connection with an assault at St Mary’s Cathedral in Edinburgh on Monday, 26 July.

The priest was attacked in St Mary’s Catholic Cathedral in York Place, Edinburgh, on Monday morning.

Police arrested Jason Irvine in Cumbria in connection with the incident.

He has also been charged in connection with an assault at the city’s Princes Street Gardens East on Monday. The 31-year-old made no plea and was remanded in custody,

Mr Irvine, said in court as having no fixed address, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court accused of the two assaults.
