Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School

Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School is a vibrant, thriving and leading school in the local area.  (1333 on roll with a Sixth Form of 173) and our long history and excellent community links provide our students with exceptional opportunities.

We are extremely proud of our 2026 Ofsted inspection, which highlights Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School as an inclusive and respectful community where pupils feel safe, valued and supported to succeed. Inspectors described the school as “an incredibly welcoming place where all pupils feel valued” and praised the “calm and respectful environment,” noting that pupils are “enthusiastic participants in lessons and school life,” benefiting from high expectations rooted in our values of respect, believe and achieve. The report also recognises the quality of teaching, stating that “teachers have a clear understanding of the skills and knowledge that pupils need” and that “staff use their subject knowledge well to adapt tasks so that all pupils… can participate in lessons.”

Inspectors highlighted our strong commitment to inclusion, noting that leaders have created “a highly inclusive culture where pupils are well known, cared for and supported,” alongside a well‑planned curriculum and a broad personal development programme that prepares pupils for life beyond school. Leadership was commended for maintaining strong standards in behaviour and attendance and for driving improvement, while our Catholic ethos continues to underpin the strong sense of community identified in both this inspection and our 2023 CSI report, which described the school’s valued “sense of family.”

We are seeking to appoint an innovative, enthusiastic and ambitious Teacher of Spanish. We require someone who is passionate about languages and teaching. Our success as a school is known to be rapidly improving and in particular our MFL department is a proud asset of our strong and cohesive school community.

Over recent years, our established and committed team have nurtured our students into highly studious and enthusiastic linguists. We have a large and growing uptake for GCSE Spanish and are proud of our persistently strong outcomes at every level. We have a reputation for success in the local area and, for several years now, have proudly achieved GCSE results that have allowed many of our students to continue studying languages in the future.

As well as our strong curriculum model, we also offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities and opportunities for our students to practise their language skills outside of the classroom. These include residential visits and student exchanges and also visits in the local area such as Latin theatre, Spanish cuisine and university workshops.

The successful candidate will teach KS3 and KS4 across a range of starting points and with some students with varied special educational needs. There may also be the opportunity to teach Spanish at KS5 in the future. Our team works collaboratively in the planning and development of our curriculum which means that the successful candidate will work in a team sharing ideas and planning an area of the curriculum. This has been really powerful in reducing our workload within the department.
