St Bede’s and St Joseph’s Catholic College are seeking to employ a Beacon 1 (Learning Support Assistant) to work within our SEND and Inclusion provision, supporting students through mentoring, classroom assistance and targeted interventions. This rewarding role helps students engage positively with College life, make good progress and achieve successful outcomes.

Role Overview

  1. Working with the SEND team, and as part of the wider Inclusion provision including behaviour support areas, the role is to support students to achieve their full potential across the College through one to one and small group mentoring, providing appropriate learning activities and the necessary administrative assistance to enable effective day to day operations.
  1. To support teachers and other professionals by implementing work, care and support programmes with students to enable them to continue learning and making good progress in College.
  1. To manage students in the Inclusion provision and in the classroom to enhance their engagement with learning, promote their enjoyment of College and secure appropriate outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with identified students, including those with SEND and EAL, individually and in groups to ensure learning and progress
  • Work alongside colleagues in inclusion provision to support all students
  • Deliver learning activities and interventions and monitor student progress
  • Set challenging and demanding expectations whilst promoting self-esteem and encouraging students to act independently
  • Prepare, create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive learning environment
  • Take responsibility for the care, preparation, maintenance and use of relevant equipment
  • Support the administration of alternative curriculum courses within the inclusion areas
  • Administer routine tests, invigilate exams and undertake marking of students’ work when necessary
  • Assist with the development, implementation and monitoring of Individual Education Plans and Personal Care Programmes
  • Provide accurate, constructive and detailed feedback to teachers and students, as required
  • Promote positive values, attitudes and good student behaviour
  • Liaise with parents, as required
  • Assist with the supervision of students out of lesson times
  • Supervise internally excluded students
  • Provide first aid and attend appropriate training as necessary
  •  Support other aspects of inclusion provision including supporting the long term behaviour   support unit and the inclusion provision.

All support staff are required to support the College aims and to play a full part in the pastoral, cultural and sporting aspects of College life.  .

St Bede’s and St Joseph’s Catholic College is a two site College – role holder should be aware that you may be asked to work on either site.
