Teacher Training and Education Apprenticeships: New Pathways Now Live on Catholic Recruitment

In a significant move to bolster the future of faith-based education, Catholic Recruitment has officially launched a dedicated section on its platform specifically for Initial Teacher Training (ITT), Classroom Assistant training and Education Apprenticeships.

The new section, named Training Gateway, arrives at a critical time for the sector, aiming to simplify the career path for aspiring educators while addressing the growing demand for talent within Catholic schools and Catholic Multi-Academy Trusts (CMATs).

A New Gateway for Aspiring Teachers

The centrepiece of the update is a streamlined “Pathway” section designed for graduates and career-changers. This area provides comprehensive guidance on the various routes to obtaining Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) within a faith-based environment.

Key features include:

  • Funding Guidance: Real-time information on the 2026/27 tuition fee structures, maintenance loans, and high-value bursaries—some reaching up to £29,000 for high-priority subjects like Chemistry, Computing, and Maths.
  • Specialised Training Providers: Direct links to Catholic School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) programs, which allow trainees to learn on the job within the unique ethos of a Catholic community.
  • Religious Education (RE) Focus: Specific resources for those wishing to specialise in RE, a core subject that sits at the heart of the Catholic school identity.

The Rise of the “Earn-While-You-Learn” Model

Recognising the financial barriers many face when entering the profession, Catholic Recruitment has introduced a major focus on apprenticeships. This includes the newly expanded Teacher Degree Apprenticeship (TDA), which allows candidates to gain a degree and QTS simultaneously without accruing student debt.

Beyond teaching, the platform now highlights apprenticeships for essential school support roles, including:

  • Learning Support Assistants (LSA)
  • School Business Management
  • IT Support and Facilities Management

Connecting the Community: 2026/27 Careers Fairs

To complement the digital launch, Catholic Recruitment has announced a series of Education Careers Fairs across the UK. These events will feature dedicated “Pathway Rooms” where attendees can meet training providers and discuss apprenticeship vacancies face-to-face.
