Catholic Multi Academy Trust / Role: Leadership
Pope Francis Catholic Multi Academy Trust Uplifting hearts Inspiring minds

Pope Francis Catholic Multi Academy Trust is a family of Catholic schools, established by the Archbishop of Liverpool, at an exciting turning point in its development. We currently have four secondary schools and four primary schools, with a number of schools set to join the Trust this year as we grow significantly.

Inspired by the Gospel and the teachings of Pope Francis, we are united in our mission to provide the very best Catholic education that encourages every person to strive, achieve and flourish, mindful of the needs of others, with no one left behind. Our values of Joy, Mercy, Service, Dignity and Solidarity are not just words: they are our way of working, learning and being.

We understand that each school is unique and has its own distinctive community to serve. Our model is not transactional or one of entitlement – it is one of accompaniment, support and challenge within a family of schools. In the last twelve months we have seen real progress and momentum across our secondary phase, and we are excited by the fact that we can achieve more.

About the Role

Our secondary schools have started working together more closely and are committed to adopting common approaches to quality assurance, teaching and learning, and coaching. We are of the firm belief that the long-term development of pedagogy, within a positive and supportive culture of coaching, will lead to the best outcomes for our pupils.

We want to appoint an experienced and successful senior leader who has led the transformation of teaching and learning in their school and is ready to take their professional expertise across a number of schools within our Trust family. This is a significant and exciting role – one that sits at the very heart of our ambition to raise standards and create a shared culture of excellence across the Trust.

The Head of Teaching and Learning and Foundational Literacy will drive high-quality pedagogy across the Trust by leading the development, implementation and evaluation of teaching and learning strategies; supporting school leaders to raise classroom standards; building a culture of continuous professional development; ensuring a Trust-wide and consistent focus on foundational literacy across all key stages; and sharing and modelling our core values in every interaction.

The ideal candidate will:

•           Be a graduate with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a proven record as an outstanding classroom practitioner

•           Have demonstrable experience of successfully leading teaching and learning at senior level (e.g. Assistant/Deputy Headteacher or Teaching & Learning Lead)

•           Have evidential and measurable impact on raising standards and improving outcomes, including for the most vulnerable pupils

•           Possess a strong understanding of current educational research and Ofsted frameworks, with a particular focus on foundational skills, curriculum and teaching

•           Have deep expertise in pedagogy, curriculum design, coaching and mentoring

•           Understand foundational literacy and how it can be developed consistently across primary and secondary phases

•           Be skilled in CPD design and delivery, and able to motivate and influence leaders and teachers at all levels

•           Be supportive of the Catholic ethos of the Trust, flexible, self-motivated, reflective and driven

•           Be committed to safeguarding, equality and inclusion
