Temporary Part Time Teacher of KS3 Music (Years 7, 8 and 9) – Maternity Cover

Days of work will be 2 days per week (Monday and Wednesday)

Salary: M1–UPS3 (£13,628 – £21,134 per annum), pro rata for 0.4 FTE (2 days per week).

St Gregory’s Catholic High School is looking to appoint a temporary full-time Music teacher for a maternity cover of up to one year. Given our school expansion, there is always scope and potential for a full-time position and the maternity cover can provide the perfect audition should such an opportunity arise.

This is a flexible opportunity for a passionate Music teacher to work part time in a school with pupils who consistently demonstrate excellent behaviour for learning, enthusiasm and ambition. Pupil / teacher relationships are a strength and you will really be able to develop your teaching practice in a purposeful and supportive working environment. The successful candidate will be teaching KS3 only and all schemes of learning will be provided.

The Music Department consists of two full time Music teachers and four peripatetic staff. We are housed in a purpose-built department consisting of two fully air-conditioned music rooms, a recording studio and two practise rooms. Both classrooms have a full suite of PC’s with Cubase on them. Each classroom has at least 25 keyboards with two pairs of headphones each.

There is also a teacher’s piano and an interactive screen in each room. At KS3, all pupils have one, one hour lesson per week and in Y7 and Y8 we focus on traditional music making using keyboards, ukuleles and singing. All pupils are taught to read treble and bass clef notation. In Y9 pupils follow a bespoke Music Technology curriculum where they learn to use Cubase through a series of sequencing and multi-track recording schemes of work, including Film Music, Pachelbel’s Canon Remix and Pop.

At KS4, pupils receive 6 hours of teaching per two week cycle and we follow the AQA GCSE Music specification. Pupils are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities including our Choir, Music Technology Club and regular concerts and productions, often as joint ventures with our Drama Department.

The Music curriculum can be accessed on the school website.

Further details and application forms are available from the school website. Please return a completed CES application form to recruitment@stgregoryshigh.com

Only CES application forms will be accepted.

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful applicant will be expected to undertake a criminal record check via the DBS.
