Mayfield School

From September 2026

Mayfield School seeks to appoint an enthusiastic, skilled and inspirational Teacher of Ceramics to join our Ceramics Department. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate ceramist to teach in a School where ceramics has long been a defining strength.

Our purpose‑built Ceramics Centre includes two dedicated studios, state‑of‑the‑art kilns, specialist equipment and excellent technician support. Ceramics is taught throughout the School from Year 7 to A Level, and many of our students go on to study at top art colleges and universities.

We welcome applications from both qualified teachers and practising ceramists without formal teaching experience. Above all, we are seeking someone with a genuine passion for ceramics who is committed to inspiring creativity, developing technical skill, and encouraging students to strive for excellence.

Mayfield is a leading Catholic Independent boarding and day School for girls aged 11-18 situated in beautiful East Sussex countryside, less than 50 miles from London and 30 miles from Gatwick. The School is an inclusive, international community with a tradition of academic achievement and a holistic approach to education. We welcome applications from equally diverse and creative teachers. Results are excellent at both GCSE and A Level, with girls going on to study at Oxbridge and the best Russell Group universities. In addition we offer a vibrant and eclectic extra-curricular provision and have an enviable reputation for pastoral care.

We offer excellent working conditions in an outstanding environment. Mayfield has its own salary scale and pension, and the package for this position will reflect the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. All staff are expected to contribute to the extra-curricular life of the School. Accommodation is available for those involved in the boarding life of the School.

Closing date for applications: Monday 13 April 2026.

Interviews will take place as soon as possible thereafter, although the School reserves the right to interview and appoint prior to the closing date.
