Farleigh School is seeking a highly experienced, enthusiastic and inspirational Maths Teacher to deliver outstanding lessons for this core subject to Key Stage 2 and 3 pupils. We are looking for someone with a passion for teaching Maths and someone who seeks high academic standards in the classroom. The ability to assist the Head of Department with planning, assessment and leadership of the department would be advantageous, as would knowledge of the Common Entrance and Scholarship exam requirements.
The successful candidate will teach a full timetable, including approximately 18 Saturdays in each academic year.
As a full-time member of the school’s teaching staff, the post-holder will contribute to all-round pupil experience and development through their responsibilities, which are in keeping with a lively boarding school environment. These include:
- Assisting with various end-of-day activities, including Prep
- Undertaking break and lunchtime supervision duties
- Taking boys/girls games for midweek and weekend fixtures and training
The successful candidate may be required to be a Form Taker.

Education and Qualifications
Essential
- Qualified Teacher Status.
- Degree in relevant subject.

Experience

- Proven record of effective differentiated Maths teaching.
- Participation in and contribution to sport or extra-curricular activities.
Knowledge

- High level of subject knowledge.
- Knowledge of current curriculum.
- Knowledge of how to provide effectively for the needs of all children.
- Full understanding of the level of personal and professional commitment to boarding school community life and the extended school day during term time.
Particular Tasks & Responsibilities:
Standards:
- Maintain a professional standard, adhering to statutory and school requirements for Health & Safety, Risk Assessment and Child Protection.
- Set the highest standards of teaching in all areas of Maths, which inspires pupils to learn and to want to learn. Create an exciting and engaging classroom delivery, which stretches the mathematically able and meets the needs of those individuals for whom Maths is a challenge.
- Have in place the appropriate planning, assessment and recording of both effort and attainment, to ensure effective delivery of the Maths curriculum.
- Foster a supportive environment where each child is valued and respected for their contribution to the school.
- Establish professional working relationships with colleagues and parents, communicating fully at all times and liaising with Learning Support where necessary.
- Be equipped with proficient computer skills for both administration and for curriculum delivery.
- Work in accordance with and respect for the school’s Catholic ethos.
Curriculum, Learning & Teaching:
- Plan, teach and implement the Scheme of Work for Maths at KS2 and KS3 (Years 3-8).
- Differentiate and deliver the Schemes of Work using a multi-sensory approach, in order to meet the needs of all the children.
- Help to develop, follow and improve an inspiring and inclusive curriculum, which also explores cross-curricular opportunities.
- Monitor the progress of pupils so that their needs can be identified and challenges set.
- Report to parents at required times during the year through progress grades and written formal reports.
- Teach across the entire age and ability range and, where required, support the preparation of pupils for scholarships to senior schools.
- Foster a supportive environment where each child is valued.
- Offer guidance to enable pupils to experience success at whatever level they are capable.
- Attend all Staff meetings and Curriculum and Parents’ Evenings, as required.
Resources & Organisation:
- Assist with the setting and marking of standardised and internal tests.
- Display work creatively and effectively in the Maths classroom.
- Write occasional reports on ‘Maths events’ for inclusion in the termly Farleigh newsletter and on the website.
Within the department:
- Keep up-to-date with own current practice and developments in Maths education, attending courses and training, where appropriate.
- Attend departmental meetings and contribute to the addressing of concerns, generating and sharing ideas, and implementing developments.
- Play a full part in the everyday life of the School, which will include day duties, e.g. break / lunch duties, prep, cover for absent staff, teaching of specified games and after school activities and some pastoral duties.
Any other duties which may be assigned commensurate with the post and in keeping with the nature of the Prep school environment.
