We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Healthcare Assistant to join our well-established Health & Wellbeing team. Our self-contained health centre provides 24-hour cover, 7 days a week, for pupils, staff and visitors to the College. As an integral part of the team, you would be required to provide support to trained staff and uphold excellent standards of care.

This is a part time, term time post (38 weeks per year). Working 3 days over 7 (Mon-Sat) to be agreed.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • To support the nurse with the health and wellbeing of pupils that attend the Health and Wellbeing Centre within school
  • To be aware of the policies and guidelines that support the care of pupils at Stonyhurst College and to know how to report any concernsTo treat all pupils and staff with respect and dignity, maintaining a compassionate and professional attitude at all times.
  • To carry out clinical and non-clinical duties within the boundaries of their competence and under the guidance of the trained nurse on duty
  • To support the nurse in medical emergency situations
  • ·To support registered nurses in the provision of a caring and safe environment
  • To record all care given to pupils on IT system
  • To carry out and maintain good infection control practices
  • To carry out clinical observations such as blood pressure recording, pulse and temperature observations and height and weight recordings and report any anomalies to the nurse on duty
  • To carry out administration duties to support the clerical team when required
  • To maintain health centre stock supplies
  • To maintain the confidentiality of pupil’s medical information
  • To report any safeguarding concerns to the nurse on duty/line manager
  • To act as chaperone to pupils as necessary
  • To escort pupils to and from medical appointments in the school car
  • To engage in health promotion for pupils
  • To keep up to date with mandatory training requirements
  • To promote the Mission and identity of Stonyhurst positively and actively promote the development of the whole person within the Ignatian tradition;
  • To offer nurture and support to the pupil
  • ·To liaise with other staff members within school to promote the health and wellbeing of pupils

General Responsibilities

  • To be mindful at all times of issues relating to Safeguarding and Health and Safety
  • To comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health & safety, security confidentiality, and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
  • To attend and participate in meetings
  • To contribute, as appropriate, to the wider life of Stonyhurst
  • Work cooperatively as part of the multi-disciplinary team supporting colleagues in work associated with patient care.
  • Understand own level of responsibility and accountability in relation to registered staff.
  • Communicate clearly, effectively and appropriately with the team, students and their family, and visitors.
  • Through practice demonstrate an understanding of Duty of Care and how this contributes to safe practices.
  • Recognise and respect people at all times with regard to age, disability, gender, position, race, religion and sexual orientation through professionalism and courtesy, treating all patients, colleagues, visitors, carers, communities and others as they would wish to be treated.

Person Specification

  • Previous knowledge and experience working in a health care environment

  • Knowledge of IT skills
  • Driving license

The successful candidate will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check
