1. Leadership and Management

  • Provide inspirational leadership to the Mathematics Department fostering a culture of, collaboration and excellence .
  • Develop and implement a strategic vision for the department in line with the academy’s ethos and improvement plan .
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of the department, including staff performance and student achievement.
  • Manage departmental resources, budgets, and timetabling effectively to ensure the best possible provision for students.

2. Curriculum and Teaching

  • Oversee the design, development, and delivery of a balanced and engaging Mathematics curriculum, ensuring compliance with the National Curriculum and key stage 4 specification.
  • Ensure the effective integration of Catholic Social Teaching and academy values into the Mathematics education.
  • Promote innovative and practical-based teaching strategies to inspire students and enhance learning outcomes.
  • Ensure learning opportunities are accessible and challenging for all students, including those with additional needs and high achievers.

3. Catholic Ethos and Contribution to School Life

  • Actively promote the Catholic ethos and values of the academy in all aspects of departmental work, ensuring Gospel values and Catholic Social Teaching are embedded in the curriculum and extra-curricular activities.
  • Encourage students to explore the ethical and moral dimensions of scientific advancements and their impact on society.
  • Participate in the wider life of the academy, including faith-based events, whole-school activities, and community initiatives.

4. Student Progress and Outcomes

  • Use data effectively to monitor student progress and identify areas for improvement within the department.
  • Implement interventions and strategies to raise attainment and close gaps in achievement.
  • Ensure student progress and attainment are at least in line with national averages.
  • Set high expectations for student behaviour, effort, and academic performance within the department.

5. Staff Development

  • Lead and support the professional development of departmental staff through coaching, mentoring, and CPD opportunities.
  • Conduct performance appraisals, identifying training needs and opportunities for career progression.
  • Foster a positive and supportive team environment, ensuring staff well-being.

6. Wider Academy Contribution

  • Work collaboratively with SLT, contributing to whole-school initiatives and priorities.
  • Engage with other curriculum leaders across the school and within partner networks and ALSSIT to share best practices and drive improvements.
  • Support the academy’s mission, vision, and values, actively engaging with parents, governors, and other stakeholders
