New Hall School

We are seeking to appoint a recent Graduate to take on the role of a Boarding Assistant at New Hall School for a one – two year fixed-term contract from September 2026. The post holder will support the academic, pastoral, and personal development of boarding students outside of curriculum time, contributing to a safe, inclusive, and nurturing boarding environment.

The Boarding Assistant will play an active role in boarding life, supporting students’ wellbeing, development, and daily routines, while upholding the School’s ethos and safeguarding responsibilities.

Key responsibilities:

• to support the wellbeing and pastoral care of boarding students

• to promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people at all times

• to comply with the School’s Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy and report any safeguarding concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

• to facilitate opportunities for spiritual growth through prayer, reflection, and collective worship

• to promote the values of care, trust, and respect in line with the School’s mission and Catholic ethos

• to participate actively in boarding life, including games, sports, cooking, crafts, and social activities

• to support and supervise evening and weekend activities and attend School events with students as required

• to support students during daily routines, including mealtimes and bedtime procedures

• to eat with students and promote good table manners and social interaction

• to supervise students during meals and designated duty periods

• to assist in monitoring and supporting the academic progress of boarding students

• to provide supervised study support and encourage positive learning behaviours

• to foster a positive and inclusive boarding community based on mutual respect

• to ensure adherence to the School’s Code of Conduct and promote high standards of behaviour

• to promote equality, diversity, and inclusion, challenging inappropriate behaviour where necessary

• to encourage participation in activities that develop students’ interests and talents

• to support students in developing independence, responsibility, and leadership skills

• to encourage high standards of personal hygiene, presentation, and healthy living

• to encourage responsibility for personal belongings and financial awareness

• to share responsibility for the health and wellbeing of students, including accurate record-keeping and liaising with the Health & Wellbeing Centre as required

• to maintain accurate boarding house records, including daily logs, registers, and online systems

• to record rewards and sanctions appropriately

• to assist with general administrative duties as required

• to monitor boarding house maintenance and report concerns

• to support other School departments during the day, in line with individual skills and experience

Person Specification:

Essential

• to have a degree-level qualification

• to have excellent communication skills and strong organisational skills

• to have a clear understanding of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

• to have integrity and to uphold the values of the School’s Catholic ethos

• to be able to relate effectively to students and build positive relationships

• to be able to motivate, encourage, and support students’ confidence and development

• to be able to work effectively as part of a team

• to have a firm and fair approach to behaviour management

Desirable

• to have experience of working with or supporting young people

• to have experience of working within the education sector

• to have experience of boarding education
