Assistant Director of PE and Sport
Main or Upper Pay Scale Applicants considered.
Required for September 2026.
TLR 2B.
This is a rare opportunity to join an outstanding and nationally recognised PE department at The Campion School. We are seeking an ambitious and highly motivated teacher to contribute to both our thriving academic PE provision and our high-performance sporting programme.
The successful candidate will lead either Key Stage 4 or Key Stage 5, depending on experience and expertise. Our academic provision is exceptionally strong, with highly subscribed OCR GCSE and OCR A Level PE courses, alongside a very popular Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Sciences. Outcomes are strong and student uptake continues to grow year on year.
Sport sits at the heart of school life at Campion. We have a national reputation, with notable success in rugby and athletics, and run a full and competitive Saturday fixture programme. Saturday sport is an integral part of our school identity, beginning in Year 7 where all students participate in rugby. We are therefore seeking a candidate for whom high-level competitive school sport, including weekend fixtures, is an expected and valued part of their professional commitment.
The role includes leadership responsibilities, staff development and the continued growth of examination PE. The previous post holder progressed to Head of Department at another leading school for sport, reflecting the strength of leadership development within the team.
The Campion School is a high-performing Catholic school within the Diocese of Brentwood. We welcome applications from teachers of all faiths and backgrounds and are committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse community. Staff wellbeing and professional development are priorities, and we provide high-quality CPD rooted in evidence-informed practice. Our pastoral care is outstanding and student behaviour is exemplary.
On-site accommodation is available and may particularly suit candidates looking to relocate to the area.
