St Anthony's School for Boys

ROLE SUMMARY:

St Anthony’s is a Catholic Preparatory School (IAPS) for boys aged 2.5 – 13. It is Roman Catholic but welcomes boys of other faiths. The majority of boys transfer to leading Independent schools. At St Anthony’s we pride ourselves in having very high standards of ourselves and our pupils, and believe that stretch and challenge are essential ingredients to real academic success.

St Anthony’s is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and well qualified teacher of Religious Studies. The person appointed will be responsible for teaching Year 7 and 8 boys the ISEB Common Entrance specification with scope for scholarship preparation at 13+. There is also likely to be some teaching of Year 6 pupils.

Academic standards at the school are extremely high with boys typically presenting at least two to two and a half years of their chronological age. By way of example a number of Year 7 boys were entered in for and successful in the Senior Maths Challenge, which is usually reserved for students doing A level Maths. Debating and public speaking flourish at the school. Expectations are high and the culture is to teach to the top; exposure to very high quality and inspiring teaching is a characteristic of academic life at St Anthony’s. Pupils proceed in significant numbers to London’s most successful Independent day schools as well as prestigious boarding schools.

The RS curriculum is aligned with (but also more challenging) than that set out by the Diocese of Westminster. The successful candidate will play a key role in liaising between the school and the Diocese although expectations are relatively light touch. There is a good deal of autonomy in deciding how the material is delivered.

The post would suit someone who is ambitious for themselves as well as their pupils. This is an opportunity to make a positive mark before progressing into middle leadership roles such as Head of Department or a Faculty Lead. The school is very well supported by our owners Inspired Education Group with ample scope for working with colleagues here in the UK and overseas. St Anthony’s remains in a strong financial and academic position, and all of us who work here are committed to excellence in all that we do.

The Common Room is a vibrant and convivial community. This is a place to work if you value autonomy, challenge and lots of support.
