We are seeking to appoint an energetic, innovative and hardworking Teacher of Religious Education to join the department and inspire pupils and students. The successful candidate will be a teacher able to confidently teach Religious Education up to and including A Level. St Edward’s places great importance on developing and challenging its staff. There will be significant opportunities for you to demonstrate your ability to make good things happen – we are looking to appoint a teacher who demonstrates outstanding potential and aspiration, both for the students and him/herself. An interest in Chaplaincy would be welcome.

All pupils and students at St Edward’s College undertake a study of Religious Education as part of their core curriculum. In Year 7 and 8 a focus on foundational aspects of the Catholic tradition alongside a study of other faith is undertaken by all pupils informed by the ‘People of God’ Archdiocesan programme over four lessons per fortnight (with an additional lesson given to Christian values in sport, which is delivered by the PE department). Year 9 receive five lessons per fortnight which involve an in-depth study of Mark’s Gospel, Relationships and Vocation and the beginning of a study of the Judaism GCSE curriculum. All pupils in KS4 undertake a study of the EDUQAS GCSE Syllabus B option which involves Foundational Catholic Theology, Applied Catholic Theology and Judaism. This is delivered in five lessons per fortnight.

A Level involves studying EDUQAS Syllabus which includes a study of Philosophy, Religious Ethics and Christian Theology. This is delivered in ten hours per fortnight. Additionally, all Sixth Form students undertake a Core Religious Education programme as part of their enrichment curriculum which affords them an opportunity to develop their understanding of fundamental human issues and the place of faith in human understanding. The RE department supports the work of the Chaplaincy within the College by grounding the Catholic life of St Edward’s in an academic study of the rituals of Catholic life and supporting opportunities for pupils and students to experience meaningfully the richness of Catholic life. There is a part-time priest chaplain who celebrates Mass weekly.
