Head of Mathematics

Sacred Heart School is seeking to appoint an exceptional Head of Mathematics to join our outstanding Mathematics Department from September 2025.  

We are seeking an outstanding and experienced practitioner to lead this highly successful department. Experience of teaching Mathematics at KS3, KS4 and KS5 is essential. Mathematics at Sacred Heart is a very popular option at A Level and the successful candidate will have a proven track record of inspirational teaching, will be able to manage a diverse team of teachers and will have a dynamic, informed vision of Mathematics.

You will lead on all aspects of Mathematics teaching, promoting interest in the subject across the full age range of the school. We will expect you to manage and develop a broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for the subject area. There is the opportunity to make a big impact on standards of student attainment and achievement through your fresh ideas, motivational skills and keen focus on improvement.

Sacred Heart school prides itself on its community and family ethos, and making every member of staff feel a part of that ethos. We are a standalone academy that treats our employees as people rather than functionaries. Once a week there is directed time after school, but otherwise we trust staff to work in the ways that best suit them, whether that is working in our staff workroom after school, or taking their marking and planning home.

Key responsibilities

1.      Management of the heads of key stages in maths.

2.      Curriculum:

–         Keeping the team up to date with any new changes

–         Developing the team with inspirational methods of teaching

–         Developing the department’s scheme of Work with resources

3.      Organisation of exams

–         Liaising with the exams officer about exam entries and any resits / changes

–         Being responsible for the organisation of regular mock exams

4.      Monitoring of all assessments

–         Entry of results from all of teachers for internal examinations

–         Identifying pupils who should be in intervention

–         Following up intervention attendance

5.      Recruitment

–         To promote interest in A Level Maths to KS4 students
