The English department are a friendly, and supportive team. English is a strong and successful subject within the College and examination results continue to improve. Our newly revised KS3 curriculum is ambitious in its intent and builds a strong foundation for success at KS4 and KS5. In 2023, 82% of students achieved grades 9-4 and our Progress 8 score is significantly positive at +0.18.

English is very popular at A level, with a strong subject team who work effectively together, planning and preparing resources to share workload and to develop fun and creative lessons.

English classrooms are situated in our newly refurbished Communication Centre, equipped with smart screens in every classroom, lecture facilities, a staff work room and a computer suite.

In KS3, students are taught at the Ignis site; KS4 and KS5 students are taught at the Ardor site. At GCSE, students work towards the new AQA GCSEs in Language and Literature, while for A Level, we currently follow OCR for both the English Literature and the English Combined courses. We have seven A level classes: three in Year 12 and four in Year 13.
