To start as soon as possible

The role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our SEND department as a Literacy Support Assistant. Our successful candidate will be passionate about raising standards in literacy in our secondary phase and will work with early-stage readers to catch up with their peers so they are able to access and succeed in all areas of the school curriculum.

The post holder will be able to establish strong working relationships with staff and students alike, be able to work as part of a team and will be a reliable and an excellent communicator. Under direction of the SENDCO, and working closely with the primary phase phonics leader, you will diagnose reading proficiency and deliver evidence-based strategies and interventions, which support reading fluency, phonics and blending, and comprehension. Training in the Read, Write, Inc, ‘Fresh Start’ programme will be provided for the successful candidate.

This post would suit a higher level teaching assistant or teaching assistant with significant experience in delivering literacy based interventions to small groups of students. This post is not suitable for trainees.
