Job Title: Head of Science 

Responsible to: Headmaster

Contract: Permanent, full time

Start Date: September 2025

St Joseph’s Catholic School is looking to appoint a vibrant, passionate and innovative individual with a clear vision to lead and develop the sciences across our school. You will inspire pupils, staff and parents with your knowledge and love for the sciences, providing the best possible opportunities for our pupils.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, and develop the Science department, ensuring a high standard of teaching and learning across all year groups.
  • Oversee the planning, delivery, and assessment of the Science curriculum, ensuring it meets the needs of all learners.
  • Monitor and evaluate pupil progress, implementing strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Inspire and mentor a team of teachers, providing professional development opportunities and promoting a culture of excellence.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement departmental and school-wide initiatives.
  • Ensure effective management of resources and facilities to support the teaching of Science.
  • Uphold and promote the school’s ethos and values, ensuring that all students have access to a rich, challenging, and inclusive education.

The Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for a highly motivated and visionary leader with:

  • Proven experience in teaching Science at Key Stage 3 and 4.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with experience in leading and developing a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and engage students and staff alike.
  • A deep understanding of curriculum design and assessment practices in Science.
  • A track record of improving pupil outcomes and promoting high standards of teaching and learning.
  • A passion for Science education and a strong commitment to student success.
  • A relevant teaching qualification (e.g., QTS) and a degree in a Science-related subject.
