Oaklands Catholic School and Sixth Form College

The Trustees are looking to appoint an inspirational, enthusiastic and committed Head of Performing Arts, with music specialism.

Oaklands is a Catholic Academy taking in boys and girls from 11-18. There are over 1,300 students on roll, including a Sixth Form College of 220 students. It is a well-established, oversubscribed comprehensive school, which is well supported by parents and highly respected in the community.

The successful candidate is likely to be an experienced Music teacher who can also lead the Performing Arts Department and demonstrate exceptional classroom practice. They will have a clear vision to continue the success of the department and help pupils to develop their skills and knowledge to the highest possible level within and beyond the curriculum.

Music and Drama (Performing Arts) have a strong presence in our curriculum and our extra curricular offer is an outstanding feature of our community. Students are taught Music and Drama in their KS3 curriculum and both subjects are offered at GCSE and A Level.

The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to music for the liturgical life of the school in liaison with our chaplaincy team and be a core part of the directional team for the annual musical theatre show.

Oaklands values continued professional development, and as such opportunities will be made available for further career enhancement.

Candidates who have extremely high expectations and are keen to take a full and active role in developing the wider life of the school are encouraged to apply.

If you are a Catholic you will understand the distinctiveness of Catholic schools such as Oaklands and this will be attractive to you. You do not have to be a Catholic to work at Oaklands; the Governors welcome applications from candidates of differing faith backgrounds or none, who can be supportive of the school ethos.

An additional retention allowance for exceptional candidates and a relocation package is available.

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to apply for an enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
