Saint George Catholic Voluntary Aided College Primo fac Prima - First Things First

St George Catholic College was graded Outstanding in all areas by OFSTED in June 2023. It is an oversubscribed school, with a proven track record of continued success currently ranked in the top 500 schools nationally for progress. It is a college in which we have a commitment to knowing every student and ensuring they fulfil their potential. We see ourselves as a family who are determined to get the best out of each other. Our OFSTED report stated that “This is a truly inclusive and welcoming school. The school’s ASPIRE values are understood and treasured by the whole community. Leaders have established a highly aspirational culture where pupils want to work hard and achieve well. Pupils are supported to do their best by teachers who they share warm and respectful relationships with.”

The Modern Foreign Languages department is highly successful and plays a key role in the College’s achievement and career aspirations for our students. It delivers both GCSE French and Spanish. Half the cohort in Year 7 study French and half the cohort study Spanish. It is an incredibly popular subject at KS 4 with the number of students being entered for a GCSE language increasing every year. We are also well above the national average for percentage of students entered for EBACC due to the popularity and success of the languages. In 2024, 91% achieved grades 9-4 for GCSE French and Spanish. Class sizes are still smaller than average at KS 4. This is an exciting opportunity to see through the new GCSE Specification which is already being taught in Year 10 with plans and resources already in place. The department has 4 dedicated members of staff including the head of department, in a brand-new building with all modern facilities and ICT resources. The head of department also supports the EAL co-ordinator with home language entries in Year 10. The successful applicant would benefit from entering a supportive environment with a blend of skills, innovation and experience. We promote a positive Catholic ethos but there is no requirement to be Catholic to apply.
