Notre Dame Catholic Academy, a member of St Joseph’s Multi Academy Trust, are seeking to appoint a highly effective, highly motivated, and ambitious Assistant Headteacher / SENDCo. The post requires an experienced Teacher who is creative and innovative, with vision, drive, and commitment to work in partnership with the Senior Leadership Team, all staff, and parents to build on the school’s achievements.

The SENDCO, under the direction of the Headteacher, will:

  •  Determine the strategic development of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) policy and provision in the School
  • Be responsible for day-to-day operation of the SEND policy and co-ordination of specific provision to support individual students with SEND
  • Provide professional guidance to colleagues, working closely with staff across the School, parents and other agencies

The SENDCO will also be expected to fulfil the professional responsibilities of a teacher, as set out in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document and the Teachers’ Standards. Please see job pack for full job description and person specification.

Personal Qualities

  • Qualified teacher status as required under the SEND Code of Practice
  • National Award for SEN Co-ordination, or a willingness to complete it within 3 years of appointment as required under the SEND Code of Practice
  • Experience of working at a whole-school level
  • Commitment to equal opportunities and inclusion
  • Is independent, persistent and decisive and shows initiative
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively
  • Commitment to equal opportunities and securing good outcomes for student with SEND
