Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School is a dynamic, thriving institution at the heart of our community. With 1,333 students on roll, including 183 in our Sixth Form, we offer exceptional opportunities supported by our strong history and deep community ties.

We are particularly proud of our Ofsted report from September 2021, which rated the school as ‘Good’ with many ‘Outstanding’ features. The report highlights that “Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School is a learning community where pupils show great respect for each other. Teachers help pupils develop into highly articulate young people, able to express their views confidently on a wide range of issues.” Additionally, it praises the school’s ambitious curriculum, noting that “Pupils benefit from studying a wide variety of subjects, and leaders and teachers maintain high expectations for all students.”

In our most recent CSI report from November 2023, students, staff, and parents all spoke highly of the ‘sense of family’ that is deeply ingrained in the school’s culture.

We are seeking to appoint an innovative, enthusiastic and ambitious Teacher of Science. We require someone who is totally passionate about science and teaching. Our success as a school is known to be rapidly improving and in particular our science department is a proud asset of our strong and cohesive school community.

Over recent years, our energetic science team have nurtured our students into highly studious and enthusiastic scientists. We have very large uptake for GCSE Separate Sciences and even more so in our A-level and BTEC Science programmes. We have a reputation for success in the local area and, for several years now, have proudly achieved and maintained positive value-added scores and positive progress 8 figures at both KS4 and 5.

As well as offering a comprehensive curriculum of GCSE’s and A-levels in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, we also offer BTEC Applied General Science and BTEC Applied Human Biology. We also offer a full programme of extra-curricular support including peer-peer tuition, outreach work with various universities, scholar’s programmes with Imperial College London and The Brilliant Club and much more. These all contribute to our development of the well-rounded and academically successful scientists that we produce and who proudly graduate from our sixth form college each year.

The successful candidate will teach predominantly KS3 and KS4. There may also be the opportunity to teach a science at KS5. Our team works collaboratively in the planning and development of our curriculum which means that the successful candidate will work in a team sharing ideas and planning an area of the curriculum. This has been really powerful in reducing our workload within the department.
