Catholic Multi Academy Trust / Phase: Secondary with sixth form / Role: Teaching / Lecturing
St Augustine of Canterbury Catholic High School

The Governors of this small friendly school seek to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational Teacher of English to join our academy from September 2025. This is an opportunity for an individual to join one of the most improved secondary schools in the country and to make a positive contribution to our English department who play a central role in our drive to reduce attainment gaps and tackle disadvantage. You will work alongside colleagues who are incredibly welcoming, supportive and committed to delivering a curriculum which will improve the lives of the community we serve.

The successful candidate will be required to teach English across the age and ability range and have a willingness to contribute to the school’s Catholic Christian ethos and broader aspects of the school. They will join a welcoming, established and experienced team. In their visit to the school in December 2024, Ofsted noted “Pupils are happy and proud to attend this school. They embrace the school’s values of aspiration, belief and compassion. For example, pupils spoke about an increase in kindness towards one another.” and “In lessons, pupils follow the school’s firmly embedded routines. They behave well. Pupils appreciate that the school’s rules allow them to learn undisrupted. The ‘ABC’ cards encourage pupils to behave well. At social times, behaviour is calm”. You will be expected to contribute to the existing good practice of the department and to be part of the school’s journey to being a great school by improving progress and attainment for all and helping to ensure that Catholic life permeates through the school.

This role will suit either newly or recently qualified, passionate and aspirational teachers or those with excellent practice who wish to share their expertise and make a difference. This role requires a driven candidate who will become part of a department with results regularly above national average (2024 progress 8 score +0.62).
