The governors of Our Lady’s Catholic College, Lancaster are seeking to appoint a school counsellor with a genuine passion in supporting the character and wellbeing of students. As school counsellor, you will be an empathetic and compassionate ear to listen to our pupils and signpost them to further support where needed.
The successful candidate will be approachable and have the resilience to listen to a wide range of issues impacting the emotions of our children. Mental health is as important to a child’s wellbeing as their physical health. It can impact all aspects of their life, including their relationships, educational attainment, and physical wellbeing.
You will have a keen interest in working with young people aged 11 – 18 and have the confidence and empathy to listen and guide the students, enabling them to improve how they process and deal with any issues, trauma or negative experiences that life has given them.
The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills. A background in counselling is essential; experience working in education is not necessary but would be desirable. The ability to communicate effectively with pupils and other staff is essential.
We can offer you a strong Catholic ethos where everyone is known and valued. Our staff and governors are highly experienced and committed. We have an ongoing commitment to continuing professional development.
