Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College is a highly successful college located in the Universities area of Leeds. The College is rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted and is always oversubscribed.
At Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College we are extremely proud of all our students’ achievements, especially the individual progression that they each make in their time with us.
Learning Support at Notre Dame
Our aim is to offer a ‘World Class Catholic Education’ by providing the best care, support and outcome for each individual student. The Learning Support team provides a range of integrated, responsive, student centred support services for a range of learners. Learners include those who have a learning difficulty or disability as well as those who need additional support in English, Maths and other curriculum and subject areas. The support we provide will enable our learners to more fully access the educational opportunities offered by the College, with local delivery where required, so as to meet the needs of all learners.
The department provides a highly professional approach whilst also being relaxed and friendly. The strong emphasis on encouraging an easy rapport between staff and students while maintaining a business-like approach to work, has seen the development of a very strong reputation for cross-college support with significant numbers of students engaging with the department at some point in their journey at Notre Dame.
The Learning Support department has a cross-college role supporting the learning of students on all courses, to enable them to achieve their full potential. It offers additional learning support to students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities and also to those with literacy, numeracy and study skills needs. Students are offered taught sessions individually, in small groups, or on-course. The department works with external agencies, as required, to meet the needs of students.
The College continues to develop a whole college approach to inclusivity, with staff and students working together. A programme of adjustments to the buildings, materials used and teaching methodology is on-going. It is the Learning Support department’s responsibility to identify students with additional learning needs and share how these will be met during the student’s time at Notre Dame, including Access Arrangements for examinations.
